John Steel Art 508-432-8516
A New Jersey native, John Steel was born and raised in Teaneck, and received his BA in Economics from Duke. He attended the MFA program at Tyler School of Fine Arts, Temple University, where he studied sculpture, painting, and art history. John was a captain in the US Marine Corps, and spent 38 years in the Aluminum Industry (Reynolds/Alcoa). He and his wife Trudie raised 3 children, and now reside in Harwich Port in retirement. John pursues his art in a variety of media. He is an oil painter and a sculptor, using wood, clay, or papier mâché, and his work is in a number of private collections. He participated in classes or workshops held on the Cape by many well-known artists. John’s paintings have been displayed in a number of juried shows across the Cape including All Cape, Leo Deihl, and CCAA open shows. His paintings and sculptures have sold in the Cape Museum of Art’s annual auctions as well as the Secret Garden Tours. John’s life sized papier-mâché figures have been displayed at the Virginia Lynch Gallery in RI and at the CAC in Chatham. His ceramic sculptures have been displayed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. |
